Background: Constance in the Fire Emblem Wiki

House Nuvelle is one of the seven (now six) noble houses of the Adrestian Empire. It used to hold dominion over the western coasts of the Empire. The family is prideful and secretive, hiding the fact that they carry bloodlilne of Saint Noa (and the Crest of Noa, which amplifies magical power), and has kept it within the family by discouraging marriages to other Houses. They have a few heirs. In Constance's generation, there was only her and her older brother.

Still, Constance was able to befriend the heirs of House Aegir (Ferdinand) and Baron Bartel (Emile/Jeritza and Mercedes).

Dagda and Brigid War

Because it is located in the border, the Viscounty of Nuvelle was the first hit by the combined forces of the neighboring countries of Dagda and Brigid during the Dagda and Brigid War in the year 1175. House Nuvelle was unable to fend the invaders off. Because of their poor relationship with the other noble houses, it was no surprise when no one came to their aide. Constance was the only survivor. House Nuvelle was stripped of its title and property.

In the year the war happened, Constance was a student of the Fhirdiad Royal School of Sorcery, which is in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. She graduated in the year 1177.

She then became a part of the Ashen Wolves, a secret fourth house in the Officer's Academy. She started living in the Abyss, a secret underground town in the Garreg Mach Monastery, where she continued her magical research in hopes of restoring House Nuvelle. There she has access to banned and obscure tomes, and anything she needs for her experiements.

Cindered Shadows

She and the three other members of the Ashen Wolves have the major crests of the Four Apostles of the Church of Seiros, which makes them likely descendants of these historical figures. With the House leaders of the three Officer's Academy houses, they tried to search for the Chalice of Begginings, a legendary item that could help ressurect the goddess Sothis.

However, they were betrayed by Cardinal Aelfric, the overseer of the Abyss who serves as the Ashen Wolves' mentor. Working with the students from the surface, they were able to take the chalice back. Their House was formally disbanded and they were allowed to go back to the surface, even if all the Ashen Wolves students preferred to stay in Abyss.

In-game, they are recruited as optional recruits for the main storyline.

Recruitment

For the sake of roleplay consistency, Constance and the other Ashen Wolves were recruited by Byleth into the Black Eagles house. No members from other houses have been recruited. Constance has maxed all of her support relationships with the other characters, including Jeritza, excluding Mercedes (because she stayed with the Blue Lions).

Personality:

Contance's outward demeanor depends on when and where you met her.

Under the shade (Abyss, indoors, outside at night, outside during very cloudy weather)

Constance can get haughty. She is proud and boastful, she will not shy from telling anyone about her achievements, or from demanding that her achievements be recognized. She is strong-willed and will not allow anyone to bully her friends (who may also double as her experimental guinea pigs).

She will talk about House Nuvelle like rebuilding it is an inevitability. She will talk about her plans for it. Despite her seemingly self-centered nature, she will include spaces for her friends in her territory (i.e. a house for Yuri, a rose garden for Emile).

She deals with everything with 200% enthusiasm, refusing to be stopped and will insist on strong-arming everyone into joining her. Because she is great, House Nuvelle is great, and wouldn't it be great if everyone joined in said greatness with her.

She has an almost villainous, mad scientist laugh, and will demand that she be given the respect she deserves.

Under the sun, bright locations

To say that Constance turns sullen is an understatement. In a complete 180, Constance under sunlight is self-depreciating, forever apologizing, and extremely withdrawn.

She doesn't think she deserves anything good to happen to her. Friends? They're better off without her. Anything she does is sure to cause pain and suffering. How can anyone stand to be with her? House Nuvelle is no more, and all her efforts to bring it back will surely be futile.

There is no point in doing anything. All is lost, and the only thing that keeps her going is her companions refusing to let her disappear into the darkness where she belongs. That, and because the darkness brings her back to her over-confident self.

Fortunately, sullen Constance is slightly aware of what she's like under the sun. Because she's still the same person, but dealing with the full brunt of her trauma, which is triggered by sunlight. When she needs to say something really important, she will drag her friend to the darkness and give them a piece of her mind.

The constants of Constance

Constance is someone who is working through her traumas and for her goals the best way she can.

She works hard, and has poured countless hours into her research, mundane as their effects may be. She doesn't get enough sleep, especially when she's deeply interested in what she's doing. Magic and research are her passions, it's not just something that was foisted on her as the heir of House Nuvelle.

Her solitary upbringing and her dual personality may make her interactions with her peers awkward, but she cares for them. Constance, under the shade, does this by having choice words to chew out the people that harm her friends. She will fight tooth and nail for them... in a ladylike fashion, of course. Constance, under the sun, does this by doing her best to keep up with her friends, using what little mental strength she has to aide them.

Despite how she might talk or present herself, she is generous to her friends. She knows what it's like to lose everything, how to work with scant resources, and she doesn't want anyone she cares about to go through that. Her friends are a part of her plans to rebuild House Nuvelle, she will carve special areas in her territory just for them to feel safe and welcome.

She has never forgotten where she came from. Under the shade, Constance will insist that she is still a noble, and deserves the fineries of her stature. Under the sun, Constance continues to talk in a polite manner. No matter her manner of speaking, one could expect some level of sarcasm from her words. It's just one of her many ways to cope with her own trauma.

Constance does carry a grudge against the Adrestian nobility that stripped her family of their rank, but it doesn't carry over to the children of said nobles. Edelgard is not the emperor and Ferdinand is not the duke who were responsible for these events. Still, she will be critical of how they act, so that they will not do the same thing their parents did.

Overall, Constance just wants to have a good home for herself and her friends, one that can never be taken away by anyone ever again.

Powers:
I will be apping Constance as a Dark Flier, which is a pegasus-mounted mage.

Riding
Constance is skilled in riding horses, pegasi, or similar creatures.

Reason Magic
Constance is primarilly a reason/damage magician, and can cast the following powerful spells:
Fire - small fire damage (20 uses)
Sagittae - targeted magic damage (15 uses)
Fimbulvetr - strong cold magic (5 uses)
Bolting - strong lightning magic (3 uses)

Faith Magic
Constance can cast the following spells:
Heal - minor health recovery (20 uses)
Nosferatu - minor damage the enemy while healing herself (15 uses)
Ward - increase an ally's defense (5 uses)
Rescue - teleporting an ally (within her sight) next to her (5 uses)

Her range (if mounted) is excellent, but her defense is terrible. She is weak to arrow damage and wind spells.

As battles only happen once per day in-game, it will take Constance a full night's rest to replenish her spell uses.

Inventory:
her clothes
her notebook filled with past experiments
a small laboratory kit
tea leaves that make rainbow tea
Nimbus Charm (supposedly summons clouds, but its effects are dubious)
